Imagine waking up to take a shower. You turn the handle ... dirty water starts pouring out – brown and speckled with green algae. Disgusted, you turn it off. Going to the sink for a drink of water, the same sour muck fills your glass.

… If you drink this water, the parasites will make you sick for weeks. But your neighbors don't have clean water either - there's none in the whole town. If you and your family don’t drink this diseased water, you will die of dehydration in a few days.

In poor nations around the world, some 3,900 children die each day from diseases carried by unsafe drinking water. All told, some 1.1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water, and a total of 2.6 billion lack adequate water for sanitation.

The good news is that it’s a problem that we know how to solve – building water wells, fixing existing wells, creating water filters, catches, and pumps.
